Christianity

Our perspective is that Christianity has some core issues and needs some work, but it can’t be downplayed how powerful it still is in the modern world and in European history, and that it does still have some things to offer.

One distinction worth making is between the Bible and Christian theory versus how it is practiced. As through Christianity’s spread through the Roman Empire, Europe, and beyond it has different forms.

For now we will start with a basic pros and cons list of Christianity primarily as it functions today.

Pros:

  • Gives people a reason to try and do/be good
  • Gives people a simple worldview and operating system
  • Comforting
  • Gives access to good communities of people

Cons:

  • Diminishes responsibility because “god has a plan”
  • Creates conflict with scientific frames
  • Replaces ancestral religion with Abrahamic one
  • Pacifies people by following Jesus
  • Fear complexes induced through hell symbolism
  • Cognitive dissonance through being unable to reconcile various contradictions
  • Resistant to any new frameworks entirely
  • Diminishes nationalistic and racial preferences
  • Very limiting archetypes and symbols, only one God, who is schizophrenic among other issues
  • unable to reconcile with other faiths/religions, claims superiority

With this basic list in mind, it seems possible we can retain the pros and avoid the cons through a new denomination or perhaps a new religion all together, as well as just techniques for interfacing with existing denominations.

A new religion or denomination would build on our ideas here. And It could include alot of the same symbols and rituals seen in Christianity. Things like light, holiness, prayer, grace, salvation, blessings, angels, demons, etc can all be retained without the need for the abrahamic specific symbols. One reference that I like for this can be seen in things like Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, or Diablo series.

When it comes to connecting with Modern Christians, we find it is usually not worth too much philosophical effort. Though there is still room to be friendly and achieve certain political collaboration. It typically comes down to the infallibility of the Bible and whatever factors led to them taking that leap of faith, a leap that is very difficult to come back from. It seems to be declining in popularity on its own, while some of the neo right who are getting into it can be swayed in other directions more easily or would be more amicable to a new denomination.
